A Healthy Child is a Happy Child.

Health and Nutrition

We maintain a positive approach to keeping children healthy and active at Lynton. We feel this is not only about a balanced diet, but also actively promoting an awareness and understanding of healthy habits. The children enjoy regular walks to the park to feed the ducks, dance and movement, and physical play. The Toddlers and Preschool also love our weekly sports sessions held by Little Superstars.

All meals are cooked on site by our trained cook, Tasha. Tasha's freshly prepared meals enable us to cater easily for most dietary requirements. Also when the time arrives for weaning your baby, we will take the lead from you. We always have available fresh fruit and vegetables for purees as well as a healthy and varied selection of finger foods. Fresh water or milk is offered continuously to children throughout the day, as well as at meal-times.

Tasha started working at Lynton in November 2018. Tasha works Monday- Friday 8:30- 2:30. Tasha has a level 2 in Professional Cookery.

We ensure that children get the most out of mealtimes; it's an ideal social experience for them to talk to their peers and staff about all aspects of their life at Nursery and at home. It's a time to promote independence by supporting children to serve themselves and an opportunity to try new foods.

Food tasting experiences are available when appropriate and children are encouraged to try foods they may not have tried before. Mealtimes also provide great opportunity to develop listening and speaking skills whereby they can talk about different textures, tastes, smells and visual appearances of a selection of foods

The children are also able to take part in their own baking sessions (both sweet and savoury) with their key person. This is a great opportunity to talk about where foods come from, using maths to look at how much ingredients we need- measuring them out, mixing and pouring demonstrating good control and hand- eye co- ordination.

And most importantly tasting the food afterwards is the best part!
